LinkedIn for International Jobs

Profile Language: English Is the Default

For international positions, your profile must be entirely in English — including headline, summary, experience descriptions, and publications. A mixed-language profile (Portuguese + English) confuses the algorithm:

  • Searches in two languages cause the LinkedIn algorithm to lose focus, reducing reach for both national and international recruiters.
  • Brazilian recruiters who hire internationally understand English — having the profile in English does not eliminate national opportunities.
  • Occasional Portuguese posts with a translation below are less harmful than mixed posts, but English-only posts are ideal.

Consistency > Intensity

The key to the algorithm is consistency:

  • Posts: 2 to 3 times per week minimum. Technical content or career reflections.
  • Engagement: Reply to comments, comment on peers’ posts, interact with recruiters’ content.
  • The algorithm detects inactivity and reduces reach — the profile must be “trained” continuously.

Technical Headline

Your professional headline should reflect your international search, not your current Portuguese job title.

  • Use terms international recruiters search for: Frontend Engineer, Software Engineer, React Specialist.
  • Include keywords from the roles you’re targeting.

⚠ Trap: Frequently switching your profile language between Portuguese and English disrupts the algorithm’s model — make the transition once and stick with it.
